The Buffalo Soldiers were important in the development of American history.  They paved the way for early expansion of the American West.  The story of suffering, heroic tragedies, comaradery, and humor.  The regiments commanded by white officers were operating under intense disadvantages.  Difficulty in obtaining officers, prejudice in frontier towns, caused them to develop into a remarkable fighting unit during their extensive engagements on the Western and Southern Plains.
